Beasley for Amare

Pros: Amare right now is a better basketball player than Beasley.

Cons: Amare is injury prone. He is almost on Tracy McGrady/Yao Ming level where an injury is not just probable, its expected.

He is not that good with the basketball in his hands. If he's your second best offensive option you are pretty much f*cked unless your point guard is Steve Nash, Deron Williams, or Chris Paul and your team is dedicated to the pick and roll and a fast paced offense. You're not winning a title with only one player who can make his own f*cking shot. Most title teams have at least 3.

Although the Heat do occasionally run pick and rolls, I wouldn't trust Spoelstra in particular to really commit to developing it beyond where it is now.

I mean how often do you see a Heat pick and roll actually work, unless its beyond the 3 pt line and Wade takes it himself to the hoop. He doesn't need Amare for that. Just anyone who can "Get the fukk outta the way"!

And to be truthful, how often do you see pick and roll teams win the title? The Celtics ran it but Garnett did not really do so much "rolling" he'd normally slide to the elbow after setting the pick and hit the midrange J. Their system was contingent on having four guys on the floor who can all make their own shots. The Heat would only have one guy who could be depended on to make their own shot if they trade for this guy.

Last but not least, if Amare does not opt in his contract, Wade will buy the next plane ticket to New York or Chicago and you wont have Beasley to build around when that happens. LeBron is not going to sign with Miami to play with James Jones, Mario Chalmers, and Daequan Cook.

I'd be happy to hear anyone's argument for why this trade should be made. The obvious would be that Amare's currently a better basketball player than Beasley. But a lot of other deals would have to be made in order for a team to be a contender with him as a 2nd option. And if those deals could be made to make your team a contender with Amare, I'm pretty sure they can also be made to do the same with Beasley.

  2. "The more I think about it the more it makes sense to me to wait until free agency. Yes, Riley could build a much deeper team by trades, but he can build a team with more talent at the top by waiting for free agency."

Yup. We're too far in to turn back now. If we were going to do the balls-to-the-wall, win-now thing, we should have done it last year, chopping and selling off all of our long term assets (Beasley, expiring contracts, etc.) We chose to wait for 2010, which, IMO, was the better choice. This way, we've got a couple bets out on the table. Bet #1 is that Beasley becomes a superstar, championship-quality #2 option. If that happens, who we sign in free agency doesn't even matter. Just by holding on to Wade and Beasley, we'll have a shot. Bet #2 is that LeBron, Joe Johnson, or Chris Bosh will sign here in 2010. If that happens, we're looking at a potential championship team whether or not Beasley turns out as well as we hope. If he does, we're loaded and could push for a dynasty. If he doesn't, we've got still a championship duo and could potentially move Beasley -- or he could be a quality third option.

When you combine those two gambles, I think the odds of at least one of them shaking out are far greater than the odds of winning a championship via "win-now" trades for longer-term contracts.

Plus, holding on to Beasley ensures that you have something to build with in 5-6 years when Wade is not the same player anymore. Otherwise, in 5 years, we're just going to have to go through this whole rebuilding process again.

  3. Cons against Amare is that getting him this year goes against Riley's plan of getting Bosh next year.

If no deals are made at the deadline, I'm 90% certain Bosh will be in a Heat uniform next year.

For more details copy and paste anyone of my 43 posts on the subject I made earlier this morning.

  4. NO TO AMARE. He's more flash than substance. He's the 2nd best player on Pho playing with a 2-time Mvp and still can't get a top 4 seed. Shyt he might not make the playoffs, they're only 1 game from 8th place.

And talk about give up what you get.....

  6. Riley doesn't want Stoudamire. He wants Bosh. Bosh wants out of Canada and wants to win. He can do that next to Wade. It just makes too much sense. My prediction is if the Heat can't get Bosh by the trade deadline they wait it out until the offseason. Then the following will happen:

-Heat will sign Bosh and resign Wade.

-Heat will have $8-10 mil in cap space left. Beasley will be traded for either a starting PG or starting SF. The Heat will be able to take the guy back with available cap space or plus Beasley (Beasley $5 mil plus $5 mil in cap space). necessary cap space. Think Kirk Hinrich, Tayshaun Prince, Caron Butler, or Iguodala.

-Heat will use then use $4-6 mil of cap space to sign either Haywood or Camby.

-The Heat will then split the remaining cap space between Haslem and either Wright or Richardson.

-You can expect to see a lot of a Haslem and Bosh front court.

    Hinrich/Chalmers
    Wade/Cook
    Wright/draft pick
    Bosh/Haslem
    Haywood or Camby/Bosh

-Spo will resign to spend more time with his wife who he met as a penpal while she was serving time in a Dade County Correctional Facility. Her release date just happens to be right around the 2011 Allstar break.

  8. Cap of $55 mil

    Hinrich $9 mil
    Wade $17 mil
    Wright $1.5 mil
    Bosh $17 mil
    Haywood or Camby $5 mil

    Cook $2 mil
    Chalmers $1 mil
    Haslem $2 mil
    James Jones buyout $1.5 mil
    3 roster holds at $500k = $1.5 mil

    It's workable under the cap

  10. I'm sorry. I think Riley is confused if he think PF is more important than SF in today's game. The list of top SF's is almost double that of PF's. He has two PF's who can produce when given the mins, he needs a SF and C. Make a damn move already.

  11. I'm stating what I percieve the Heat are thinking, not on Beasley's talents or skills.

Why do you think the Heat have any plans to build around Beasley when they don't even play him in the 4th quarter and he's gotten 14 min and 22 min the last two games.

Beasley's not in the plans. He's a great talent and a gifted scorer, but the Heat don't seem interested in what he contributes on the basketball court.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Good stuff, Chris.

I'm against bringing on Amar'e at the cost of Beasley. I think it'd largely be for show. Stoudemire isn't putting us over Cleveland or Orlando in a 7-game series and I'd still have reservations about Atlanta and Boston.

Unless he gets hurt, there's no way in hell he doesn't opt out. The new CBA is changing salary structure big time. Even if he can't get a full max somewhere, a deal starting around 12-13M for 5 or 6 years is better than one year at 17M and then playing roulette with the new CBA. So, regardless of whether or not he re-signs (or is even wanted back), you've lost Beasley for nothing because you can just go after Amar'e in the offseason ...if the LeBron or Bosh wet dream (which is what Riley wants) doesn't pan out.

Stoudemire will be declining soon, I doubt his injuries are fully over with and he has the same defensive shortcomings that Beasley's detractors love to mention. So, what's gained except a more athletic (for now) model who dunks more, comes up with an occasional weakside block and is 7/8 years older? Their offensive games are more similar than some seem to realize, with the noted differences that Amar'e is a more finished product on that end, but not as versatile as Beasley is right now. Stoudemire takes his fair share of face up jumpers, but gets a lot of opportunities going to the basket because of the motion involved with Phoenix's offensive scheme and the proficiency at PG there.

Christ, at least Michael has shown a willingness to become a better defender (and made strides). Does anyone recall the hissyfit Amar'e threw when Porter wanted more of a defensive commitment from the team? He wasn't thrilled about playing in a halfcourt-oriented set either. All that was with outside shooters, slashers and Steve Nash at point. Umm ...nothing even close to that awaits in Miami. Like I said earlier, if this goes through, I never want to hear this supposed notion of Heat culture mentioned again from this organization.

  13. Why is Bosh a pipe dream? I don't see him wanting to stay in Toronto and the Heat provide him the best shot at winning a championship and becoming one of the NBA's elite.

He has the same agent as Wade... you don't think Wade is in the know as far as Bosh's decision?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't think he's a pipe dream. But if you gave me the Heat or the field for Bosh's team next season, I'm taking the field. I don't know Bosh. I don't know his thought process. But if it's as obvious as it seems that Bosh will leave Toronto in the 2010 offseason, then he's going to be traded before he gets that chance. Toronto knows they're not winning a championship this year. Why not unload him for locked-in talent while they can, if he's likely out the door?

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's all a wet/pipe dream. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen. With this economic climate, the imminent new CBA and just past experience, I have a hard time seeing any of the top guys move and leaving an average of 5-6M/year on the table, Wade included. That 'It's about winning/Money doesn't matter' stuff sounds good in theory, but I rarely ever see pro athletes do anything but chase dollars until the realize their career is about over and they've never won a damn thing.

And no, I don't believe Dwyane is privy to anything that Chris is going to do. At least, not in the sense that Bosh to Miami is essentially a done deal.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wade has the same agent as Bosh which makes me think he is in the know regarding his decision process. These guys set up their contracts so they could have the option to play together, now that the time has come do you think they're not conversing?

Maybe the Raptors want to trade Bosh, but what team is going to give up any assetts for a half year rental? Bosh, much like Amare, pretty much can control wherever he goes. No team is going to give up young talent for Bosh if he doesn't agree to an extension. What good does it do the Raptors to take on bad contracts that will only handcuff the team in the future?

If Bosh wants to come to Miami he can make it happen. The Raptors would probably gladly do a sign and trade if for no other reason to obtain a chip (Beasley) they can use down the road.

  17. "With this economic climate, the imminent new CBA and just past experience, I have a hard time seeing any of the top guys move and leaving an average of 5-6M/year on the table, Wade included."

Can you explain this to me? For example, if Bosh signs with Miami he will get $xx mil per year for 5 years versus $xx mil per year for 6 years with the Raptors.

Don't you think the Raptors would be willing to work out a sign and trade for Beasley? Especially since the Heat have enough cap space to take Bosh for Beasley straight up and would not have to send back an additional $12 mil in salaries to match the max deal Bosh would be signing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with JB regarding Beasley not being part of the future plans. It's a real shame because the kid has proved himself when given the opportunity. Something that doesn't get mentioned is the fact that, if Beasley was treated how a player with his talent should be, we could have a star at a cheap contract. This would allow this free agent period to have the best possible scenarios and we can make a sure fire splash in free agency. Also, something that gets no mention, Beasley is a cheap contract going into the new cBA in 2011. Salaries and guaranteed portions will most likely be reduced but I doubt owners will be able to retroactively adjust outstanding contracts. This would mean we can resign Beas at a better contract than what other stars are signng prior to the agreement. Say Amare opts out and we resign him, his contract would be considering the current CBA rules. Are we willing to give up a player with more potential than Amare who also can eventually have a more Palatable salary? Are we doin this to appease Wade (which would be retarded) or is his smoke and mirrors?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't argue that Beasley has been phased out. I just think it's a bad move and Amare is fool's gold.

    ReplyDelete
  20. One thing Chris forgot to mention is that one scenario that exists in acquiring Amare is that we might be able to get out of a guaranteed contract like j jones or cook next yr. That could have implications on Rileys dream of bringing over Lebron and Bosh. If Riley does this trade that has to be a significNt factor. Maybe the dream will turn into Lebron and Amare. As much as Lebron might stay in Cleveland (NBA best record) what about Torontos recent success (second best record in new yr). Maybe the plan has shifted to Amare and Gay? Regardless, I personally feel we are better off waiting it out and keeping Beasley. However, I personally wouldn't have developed Beasley, or any of the other young guys for that matter, the way this team has. So who knows. Maybe we wait till free agency and trade Beasley then like JB said

That sounds a lot what Beasley could be doing if he was given the minutes Amare gets now in Phoenix now. Wasn't it Riley himself who said Beasley could easily score 30 a night, but would probably give that up on the other end... LMAO!!!

    DOUBLE STANDARDS!!!!!

What's even funnier is that Haslem gives up those kinds of #'s all day and can only put up at best what he did last night 14n14 and that's about as good as your ever gonna get from Hustle'm...LOL

    DOUBLE STANDARDS!!!!!!!

Amare forBeasley makes no sense, hell even Bosh for Beasley doesn't make any sense. I'd bet anybody if Haslem was traded Beasley would immediately transform into a 22n10 machine right now. What's going on right now with the Heat is exactly what Riley said nobody from the Heat wasn't doing.

WALKING ON EGGSHELL BECAUSE OF WADE!!!

I'm sick of this team at this point if Wade becomes impatient this summer he's gonna do what he wants to do anyways. If Riley really wanted him to stay he should've/could've/would've done more sooner. Hold on to Beasley and Wade too if he wants to be here, let go of the other 2 guys though. You know the bossom buddies Spoelstra and Haslem!!!!!

Yo dred99 those filipino's were pretty good too....lol

  22. I think it's overstated that they set up their contracts to play together. They set up their contracts to get the most possible money. That happened to be the same for all of them, since they all came out of the same draft. So yeah, they end up free agents at the same time. But not really because they wanted to play together.

And if the Raptors wanted to trade Bosh, all they have to do is ask him where in the Western Conference he'd agree to extend. Then they could work from that point. If he says the Lakers, they could trade him for Bynum. If he says the Warriors, they could trade him in a 3-way deal for expirings and a guy like Stephen Curry. Etc, etc. Dealing Bosh would not be hard for Toronto if they choose to do that. They could find 20 takers offering packages better than the nothing they'd get if Bosh walked in the offseason, I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Also Kbboy, I like the set up. Nice work so far by you and chris. Let me know how I can get on to submit a blog

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think those guys set their contracts up that way because their agents advised them that it presented an option to cash in on the last wave of deals before the CBA expires. Sure, they'll talk about it, but I don't see this as some set in stone just that's just waiting for the calendar to flip.

I also agree with the other statements that it seems like Beasley doesn't have a future here; regardless if he gets traded in a week or not. The organization never embraced him the way you see other teams do with their high picks. Who the hell uses the #2 pick and then treats a guy like a role player, platooning him (at times, out of position) for a guy who actually is a role player. This thing should have been about fostering a Wade/Beasley duo from the start. It hasn't. Not even close.

The point I was making is that maybe there isn't a team in the WC where Bosh wants to play. It's been reported Lakers don't want to move Bynum for Bosh. Is there really any other team out West where he would want to go? GS is not going to give up Curry if Bosh is just going to bolt in the offseason.

The Suns are going through the same thing with trying to trade Stoudamire. It was reported GS was interested last season, but backed out because Amare wouldn't resign with them.

In short (and with estimations) a FA re-signing with a team gets a max of 6 years/120M. A FA signing with a new team gets a max of 5 years/90M.

I was talking about signing him straight out via FA (thus, leaving money on the table). I don't put too much stock into a sign and trade. Sure, they could get Beasley at 5M and the Heat being under the cap would allow them to take in more than they send out, but you don't think they can find a better option and get something more than just Beasley, (since there's nothing else here that anyone would want)? Like a better compliment of players?

If Bosh goes, they're moving Bargnani back to the 4 (which is basically what he is now). We see how Beasley is at the 3. I can't see Bosh strongarming Colangelo into mandating where he be sent with max money if it doesn't make sense for Toronto. Given how that team is currently set up, I don't see how that's mutually beneficial. Michael doesn't play in the post anywhere near as much as Bosh does this year to accommodate Bargnani (who's been proven to be even more averse to playing in the paint that Michael is at this point). Better to let him walk rather than bring in a piece that doesn't fit into what you have in place (and hoping you can flip that into something useful) IMO ...unless you start talking 3 or more teams involved, which takes the speculation to a point where I just get tired.

That's why I think Riley has already made up his mind.

The points Josh made I have been saying for a while. Its too late to turn back now. As far as us being able to be deeper now but build a better team later, I have been saying that from day one. Lets ride this thing out. If we can continue to focus on improving the offense, theres no doubt in my mind we can regain enough good feeling about this team to finish out the year, and regain the 5th seed.

The points JB was making are great. I just dont agree with doing it. Y spend 16 mill on Bosh when we can just start Beasley for 5 mill? The rest of that money could be used to get a better center than Camby, not that I dont want him. a better sf than wright, and a better pg than Kirk. Not to mention what that money could do for our bench. I like all of those guys but if we can do better, then y not? Even with Kirk, we probably still would need more of a creator on the floor than kirk. Wade needs a dynamic partner in the back court, either at pg or sf, to take more of the load off.

  36. Heat Check: What Will Miami Do? (John Hollinger); 1 of 3

ATLANTA — Miami’s visit to Philips Arena on Wednesday night did more than just provide another exhibit of Dwyane Wade’s talents, as he calmly dished out 11 assists in the Miami Heat’s surprisingly easy 94-76 win over the Hawks. It also gave us an up-close look at Wade’s position at the epicenter of the next six months of NBA transactions.

When it comes to the current trade season and this summer’s free-agency season, Miami is ground zero. While there are other teams that will be major players in the action — Dallas with its nonguaranteed contracts, Memphis with its $3.2 million under the current salary cap, and New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Oklahoma City and the Clippers with their cap space their summer — no other franchise offers the tantalizing combination of blockbuster trade potential, outrageous free-agent possibilities and spectacularly awful worst-case scenarios that the Heat can offer.

It all starts, of course, with Wade. He can opt out of his contract and become a free agent after the season, potentially bolting the Heat for another contender — such as the Bulls in his native Chicago — and leaving Miami high and dry. That’s the worst-case scenario, and it’s an awful one, because without Wade, the Heat lose their main selling point to make to other prospective free agents. The Heat would have more cap space than any team in the league but almost no chance of being able to use it on an elite player. In that case, get ready for “15-67: The Sequel.”

As a result, everyone in Miami is on a knife’s edge over Wade’s recent comments indicating displeasure with the Heat’s play and their strategy. Still, the general view from Miami insiders is that Wade’s postgame vent the other night was much ado about nothing. When you break it down, in fact, what he said about the Heat wasn’t exactly breaking news. In the depths of a five-game losing streak, he said the Heat’s offense was too predictable and that coach Erik Spoelstra had confusing rotations.

Duh. The Heat are predictable, because they have only three players who can get their own shot and because so much of the offense flows through Wade. You can only do so many counters, misdirections and ball reversals before settling for a side pick-and-roll with Wade and Jermaine O’Neal. If the other team has seen it the past eight trips, not to mention the last eight times you’ve played them, they’re probably going to be ready for it.

And yes, the Heat do have confusing rotations, and that shouldn’t be a surprise either. In any given game, Spoelstra has about eight players of roughly equal mediocrity that he can mix and match based on what the opponent does. On Wednesday night, for instance, he chose to ride a rare hot hand from Daequan Cook and a strong outing from Dorell Wright, both of whom neared their season highs in minutes. Next game, it could be Carlos Arroyo or Quentin Richardson or James Jones. But it’s not a coaching problem as much as a roster problem — the team has three good players in a sport that requires five.

The other comment that stuck in locals’ craw was his statement that “We should be much better,” implying displeasure with the organization. Well, they’re a little bit better since he uttered those comments: Miami has won two straight against winning teams to head to the break at 26-27.

But here’s what Wade left out — the reason they aren’t doing better has as much to do with him as it does with the rest of the organization. Knowing that the likely zenith for this Miami club was losing in the first round again, Wade apparently didn’t come into the season in quite the same incredible condition in which he had entered last season. His elevation seemed notably lacking in the first two months in particular, so much so that Heat czar Pat Riley called out his lack of conditioning. Wade’s 27.5 PER and 29.1 points and 7.2 assists per 40 minutes, while breathtakingly good, still fall short of last season’s scintillating performance (30.46, 31.3 and 7.7).

    ReplyDelete
  37. Heat Check: What Will Miami Do? (John Hollinger); 2 of 3

Even so, Miami should end up a little better this season than last year. Wade’s supporting cast has proven better than anticipated, especially with a mini-rebirth in the middle from O’Neal, who crushed Atlanta All-Star Al Horford on Wednesday night. With a favorable closing schedule, the Heat currently project to win 45 games, which would be a slight improvement on last season’s 43.

So as Dennis Green would say, they’re what we thought they were. Wade knew that going in, and as a result I think the doomsday scenario is highly unlikely.

But several other possibilities loom on the horizon that also make the Heat the league’s most interesting player.

For starters, there’s the Amare Stoudemire rumors that won’t die. Miami can offer the Suns a package centered around 21-year-old forward Michael Beasley that’s more alluring than what nearly any other team can provide. While Stoudemire’s style of play seems the antithesis of the Heat’s defense-first, no-layups mindset, there’s no denying that the pairing of Stoudemire and Wade could wreak havoc offensively.

Additionally, there are two different angles that make such a deal intriguing. First, let’s say the Heat trade Beasley for Stoudemire, who then opts in to his $17 million deal for next year. If the Heat can find somebody to take Cook’s $2.1 million deal off their hands at the trade deadline, they would have enough cap space to sign another free agent starting in the $10 million to $12 million range to join Wade and Stoudemire. Maybe that’s not enough to get LeBron or Chris Bosh, but it could bag them the likes of Rudy Gay, David Lee or Carlos Boozer. Plus, the addition of Stoudemire would likely take the doomsday scenario of Wade’s potential departure off the table.

If the Heat acquire Stoudemire and he opts out, that adds risk for Miami but also might be even better. The Heat could offer Stoudemire a long-term deal for less than the max and still make the case to him that he would come out ahead financially, both in terms of security and the total dollars, since he could get six years with the Heat on the open market as opposed to only three years if the Heat gave him a contract extension.

If his deal started in the $13 million range, Miami could create enough cap space to sign James (or Bosh) to a max deal in addition to retaining Wade and Stoudemire. That’s the home-run scenario, and given the apparent lure of Miami for Stoudemire — he is from Florida and wants to play for a winning team, so presumably would stay — it’s a possibility worth contemplating.

  39. Heat Check: What Will Miami Do? (John Hollinger); 3 of 3

Of course, maybe nothing at all happens at the trade deadline. It wouldn’t be the first time a long-rumored deal didn’t come to fruition. In that event, the Heat are still ground zero for this summer because they will have more cap space than any other team — perhaps even enough to sign two max-level free agents. Thus, assuming that Wade isn’t going to bolt at the first opportunity (and I do expect him to stay in Miami), consider him a recruiter with financial clout.

The timing is interesting on that front as well. Wade headed to the All-Star Game in Dallas, where he’ll get to sample, once again, being a teammate of a bevy of potential 2010 free agents, namely James, Bosh and Joe Johnson. On Wednesday, he noted how familiar with each other those players already are.

“We’ve all played together plenty of times,” said Wade, “so it won’t be any different this time than it was the last three years we’ve been in the All-Star Game, or playing the summers at the World [Championships] or the Olympic Games.”

“We all will” work on sales pitches at All-Star Weekend, Wade added. And he can start his pitch with one of his Sunday opponents when Stoudemire lines up at center for the Western Conference.

But regardless of how and when the Heat’s transactions go down, the handwriting on the wall is clear: Miami is poised to transform its franchise into a powerhouse, provided Wade is willing to go along with the program. Despite the recent drama, it appears to be all systems go on that front. As a result, Wade and the Heat will be at the center of what could be the most transformative half a year that the league has seen in some time.

There goes Ira, at it again with his backhanded compliments for Young Beazy.

Two days before, Ira was the one pressing Beasley about the Amar'e trade rumors and whether he felt dissed by the team.

Now he's grilling him about Durant and Rose being given the keys to their respective Franchises and whether or not he feels he measures up.

I wonder if he actually believes the drivel that he writes.

I hate you Ira. Leave the kid alone.

I forgot, it's all about winning ...and somehow, by taking open shots that result from no one caring about him as an offensive threat, Haslem does that.

    ----------------
Without trying to get too detailed, we have about 40M worth of expiring contracts that we could use to trade to bring in talent right now. Alternatively, if we let those contracts expire, we'll have around 25M in cap space (not including what Wade would get) to sign free agents. If we nab Bosh or another max (let's not kid ourselves about LeBron), that's about 9-10M left to fill out a roster of Wade, Beasley, Cook, Anthony and Max FA. At that point, you start looking for other relatively cheap free agents or trade scenarios that are really just teams looking to drop salary.

There's some give with the numbers, depending on what the salary cap actually gets set at, but that's about the gist of it. What it comes down to is when Riley thinks he can put together a better roster. You'll find opinions on both sides, depending on who you believe is available/interested in coming to Miami.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I didn't include picking up Chalmers' cheap option (~900K), but did account for the 1.9M due Jones if he's waived (if he's brought back that another 2.7M [4.6M total]).

Funny, even with all those injuries the West is still better. East has a lot of guys who shouldn't be there. The West bench was so strong with Dirk, Roy, D-will, and Durant coming off. I still think they have a good shot. Plus they have home court advantage.

That 'driving' quote pretty much says it all. Guys like Durant and Rose came in and were given prime treatment, allowed to make mistakes and grow. Beasley is constantly looking over his shoulder and gets yanked for a role player, on a team whose ceiling is the 2nd round. It's ridiculous.

It's not he hasn't shown promise on numerous occasions, but apparently, he should be a finished product now. No time for potential mistakes when you're pursuing 45 wins. It's all about winning.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Lord Hades said...

    FEBRUARY 11, 2010 3:23 PM
    ---------------------------------------

Honestly, what's happening with Beasley now really is the snowball effect of letting Wade do whatever he wanted to last season. Spo maybe calling his own subs this season, but last season it was Wade on many occasions. But letting Wade do that then is kicking this team in the butt now. Beasley should've been much further along in his overall development by now, but Haslem's in his and the teams way...

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hmm...
East has (who starts for AI?)-Wade-LeBron-KG-Dwight with Bosh, Joe Johnson, Al Horford, David Lee, Rondo, Rose & Paul Pierce off the bench.
West has Nash-(whoever starts for Kobe)-Melo-Duncan-Amar'e with Deron, Dirk, Kidd, Chauncey, Gasol & Z-Bo off the bench.

Yet again, the West has the better big guys, but our perimeter players have the edge. 50/50...

It really just comes down to one of two things. If you're a Wade fan, you'll side with Wade. If you're a Wade hater, you'll side with the wife. Personally I really just don't think its anyone's business to judge, no one here knows them. There is a high divorce rate in this country. They had a pretty long run. Its nice to hear those successful high school stories, they grew up together in the hood and they made it together to the big leagues due to Dwyane Wade's basketball success. I'm sure they both had their reasons for breaking up. There doesn't always have to be a bad guy. They met at a really young age. Most high school relationships fail for a reason. I bet 99% of this blog is not still with their high school sweetheart.

    ReplyDelete
  94. @Agent D: Yes, there's an MVP for the game. Durant won it last year when he dropped 46.

@adrian: If you mean immediately (by this trading deadline with who's reportedly available), I don't see one. Overall, and going into this summer, there's some variety depending on what you see Beasley becoming. I believe Bosh, Gay and Johnson could all be very useful. Getting one of them to put along with Wade and Beasley (along with a decent amount of money to fill out the roster)is a lot easier than signing one, dealing Beasley and hoping the third guy signs for less than he could get elsewhere because of title prospects. I'm in favor of the first option, but Riley won't return my calls.

    ReplyDelete
  95. hades i am watching cleveland and orlando and watched the lakers last night. heat are gonna need more than a big 3 to beat those teams. lebron isnt leaving, and getting bosh to pair with wade and beasley wont be nearly enough. bosh and beasley arent physical enough, and we need help at the swing and a real pg. a lot of holes that wont be filled right away

    ReplyDelete
  96. Man, I feel so bad for Bease. Do we really wanna trade him for Amare and see him put up 30 ppg there while Amara struggles to score 20?

Unlike Durant, the rangy small forward who has been cast as the definitive go-to player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, or Rose, the crafty point guard who is the unquestioned floor leader for the Chicago Bulls, Beasley remains little more than a complementary piece for the Heat, lately an afterthought in the team's power rotation behind Jermaine O'Neal and Udonis Haslem.

"Don't get me wrong," he said, "I love the team I'm playing for. I love everything about the team. But it's just what could have been. I'm like, 'I would love if it happened last year rather than next year.

    "It's been a slow process."
"Their teams just threw them the keys and they learned to drive alone," Beasley said. "Me? I'm going through driving class and I've got to sit through long lectures and stuff like that."

For now, there is no other choice.

    "I'm patient," he said.

Because Bosh coming here isn't a sure thing, especially after falling behind the Raptors in the standings. Plus, you don't know for sure if he'd prefer the $30 million over a ring. So, trading Beasley depends on how lucky Riley feels. It's less so about faith in Beasley & more so about "I don't want to look like I wasted 2 years for nothing."

  116. From what I've read around the web Memphis is unlikely to match an offer exceeding $13 mill per year. If we make the move and end up giving up Beasley for Stoudemire we would at least clear enough cap space to sign R. Gay and Stoudemire at contracts starting at $14 mill per year and resign Wafe to the max. Then fill out the rest of the roster with the 10-12 mill we have left over. Players like R.Allen, Ginobli, Camby, and JO might sign for cheap. Wade, Gay, Stoudemire with a defensive center makes us instant contenders to win it all. No way Wade ever sees a double team with that.
