Are you serious Dorell?

Really, Dorell Wright, Really? DUI? Why don't these guys learn? I guess he figured Arroyo's run in with the law was rewarded with a starting position. Honestly, what happened with Arroyo, was he drunk too? He refused to take a breathalyzer and took a beating for it, but he is still innocent until proven guilty so props to him, I guess. However, shouldn't a player get suspended for resisting arrest?

Back to the topic of drunk driving. It has gone too far. Am I the only person who saw Al Jefferson get a two game suspension for it and thought "That's it?". I remember my neighbor losing his job due to a DUI. Not in the NBA, two game suspension. Granted a two game suspension is a lot of money, but it is 1/41 of their annual paycheck and less than a week suspension. What sort of message is that sending? If the NBA really Cares about their communities they will make these off the court issues a priority in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Dorell's driving record is terrible, having his license suspended as recently as this past October. I think he should get a five game suspension. More than the T-Wolves, but not enough to drive him out of town ala James Posey and the body fat suspension. He is a free agent at the conclusion of this season and if the front office didn't trade him for a first round pick it is because they still value him.

  1. No! We need Dorrell. The bench goes from thin to paper-thin without him. Plus, he's just coming off of injury. We need him knowing how to play for the playoffs.

  2. Oh, btw, anyone else here seen the trailer to the movie with D-Wade & Common?

  3. Funny, the movie is called "Just Wright"...

Wade is only in the trailer for a moment - in a Heat uniform - I got scared that he played for the Nets or something.

Dorell's driving is "Just Wrong" though. He has to be suspended for five games, that's why I'm mad at him. I guess they can suspend him for 2, but I don't think Riley will be that lenient... and I agree. Discipline is important. What's wrong with these guys, we're in the middle of a playoff race and he's supposed to be playing for a new contract. WTF!

  4. sorry, i have no sympathy for wright. although no one wants to lose games, that type of immaturity is not what i want on the team

  5. I agree. I am very disappointed in him. More so because we are in the middle of a playoff run and I expect guys to step up their efforts on and off the court.

You can still party, but you don't get drunk. You can get drunk, but you don't drive. You can drive, but you don't speed... just joking, but seriously, wtf!

  6. Melo got a DUI & he's a top 4 player...2 games is enough, imo. Suspending Wright could help drop us out of the playoff race, so do you want to chance it? I think keeping Wade by not missing the playoffs is more important than "discipline." If the guy keeps driving drunk, he'll go to jail, & ball players always end up "food" in prison.

  7. I wanted to trade him for a first rounder, because of the chance that he wasn't gonna be a part of the team next year anyway... the team is a longshot to get out of the first round this season anyway.

The team chose to keep him and I was happy to see that. I got behind him to breakout and earn himself a spot for 2010 and beyond as a starter or 6th man, but then he let the team down and himself, yet again.

It is close to the last straw for him because the team has been so patient with him... 6 years and still no tangible ROI. The guy drives a Bentley and based on actual production, he should be driving a Prius or a second hand Lexus. Come on man!

  8. I don't think Wright is likely to make a difference in the standings for us.

  9. lol @ Wright. They never learn.

  10. Just now watching the Magic-bird thing on HBO. Can't believe Isaih (& Rodman) called Larry overrated. Just wow.

& I don't think that Kobe & LeBron can have a rivalry to match this one. Actually, has there been one like this since? Shaq-Duncan comes to mind, but not really.

  11. We can overcome his absence for 5 games, if they decide two games is the standard and stick to it, I'm cool with it... but the league needs to clean up this mess. Getting these guys to wear suits and smile for the cameras at children's hospital isn't enough.

Funny tangent: I was at a SUNS function when they had Tom Gugliotta and Stephon Marbury buy Christmas presents for the kids. Googs rode on the bus with the kids and interacted with them and made them feels special, you could tell that he got the importance of making it about the kids. The bus was held up by 40 minutes by Stephon who eventually let the team know he would meet the kids at the Toys R Us, and then showed up with an entourage who was talking about "bitch this and bitch that" inside the kids store and Stephon was on his phone until the cameras showed up. I saw him literally take a toy from a kid and hand it right back to the kid for the news cameras. The kid was so confused.

I was sad to see he could pretend for the camera, but not for the kids that idolize him. It was so disrespectful to the Suns organization too. It really is no surprise that he is playing in China.

  12. LeBron/Wade would be closer because they came out of the same draft class, but they never have great teams at the same time, plus they are in the same conference.

LeBron/Melo was supposed to be it, but Nuggets/Cavs isn't quite as glamorous as Lakers/Celtics. Anyway, if they meet in the Finals there could be something there.

Kobe/LeBron would be a great rivalry for the next few years if they keep meeting in the Finals, but Kobe won 3 titles before LeBron stepped onto an NBA court.

  13. "LeBron/Wade would be closer because they came out of the same draft class, but they never have great teams at the same time, plus they are in the same conference."

The same conference thing isn't too much of a problem. If they had the 1st & 2nd seeded teams, they'd meet in the ECF. Problem is it's more likely they'd meet in the 1st round, so "rivalry" averted...for now.

  14. The reason there's no rivalry like Bird/Magic is because back then the best players actually had good teams around them. Celtics? Lakers? C'mon now. Imagine if LeBron was on the Celtics instead of Pierce and that him and Kobe were both around 28 and playing against each other for the rest of their primes. That would be just as good as Bird/Magic.

To think the Heat could have drafted Jameer Nelson instead of Dorrel Wright, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It was such a no-brainer back then, but Nelson did not fit in the mold of bigger point guards that Riley likes. Nothing to do.

  20. Man D-Wright dropped the ball with this one, but you live and you learn. Arison and Riley ate the luxury tax for him and this is the gratitude they get...lol

Funny thing is I see Riley still re-signing him in the off-season or using him in a sign and trade deal. Why? For the same reasons he didn't trade him at the deadline. For fear of watching him turn into a player on somebody else's team.

Was it not a good decision to drink and drive with a suspended license? Yeah, but I can forgive a guy who owns up to his mistakes. Wright has yet to give a statement to the media yet, I know one is forthcoming, but you gotta think twice D-Wright. A 2-game suspension sounds about right.

Yo they're re-playing game 4 of the Spurs/Cavs Finals and Lebron is looking like this years D-Wade...lol Committing stupid TO's and these guys can't grab a rebound if their lives depended on it... LMAO!!!!!!! David Stern gift wrapped a trip to the Finals for Lebron to appease for Wade earning his trip and chip to boot.

And he didn't shake the Spurs hand either... His arrogance and pride will only hinder him from taking the next step and winning a ring. If you lose congratulate the other team and keep it moving... Dude acts like a spoiled child... Pop and Mike Brown shared a word with each other and a couple of other players did as well, but no Lebron and Duncan moment....LMAO!!!!! That's who that whole series was centered on... I bet everything I own had the Spurs loss Duncan would've congratulated him first or Lebron would've went looking for Duncan to say what a great series it was...LMAO!!!

  21. I'll never understand how millionaires can't get the simple concept of 'call a cab'. IIRC, the NBA has some sort of 24/7 hotline that players can call and arrange for a private car to come get them. Regardless, this is ridiculous. Just dumb on Dorell's part.

I don't know if the organization will discipline him, but I hope none of this garbage clouds the effort for an important game tonight against a beat up Chicago squad.

  24. LOL. Guess that rules out Amare coming to Miami. Can you post a link?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Or is that Amare's backwards way of saying the Heat should have traded for him.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't have a Twitter account, but his link is below. It's still pretty high up on his page.

  27. Wow that's legit too. Damn. You don't see players call out other players randomly like that for no reason.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, it is pretty stupid, especially on the Beach. The damn police station is right in the mix of everything. They're always out there.

Driving drunk is bad enough. Driving drunk with a suspended license makes you a candidate for Jackass of the Month. I don't know if that's Amare's version of a PSA or if he's actually taking a jab at the Heat. If it's the latter, I'd rather him say "This is the guy you turned down 7M in luxury tax benefit for? LMAO!"

  30. It's official. Wright suspended 2 games. Hopefully, he plays with a chip on his shoulder when he comes back.

  31. From the Department of What's Also Official, Derrick Rose is out tonight. Noah is already out, Deng is likely not even to suit up, Gibson has plantar fasciitis in both feet (but will play) and Miller has a thumb injury. All that and they're coming off a thrashing from Orlando last night. Beas is still a gametime decision, but regardless we absolutely have to win tonight.
